Description
In this presentation, I explore the dual nature of environmental psychology’s present capacity—both its potential and limitations—in influencing policy. Taking a critical social psychology approach, I argue that current approaches to study climate change responses tend to obscure the full scope of the climate crisis and contribute to a misrepresentation of the most affected populations. Using the case of climate change adaptation policy in México and drawing on the results of in-depth interviews with local stakeholders, I discuss how framing climate change as a matter of individual responsibility has negative implications for the development of social policy.
