Adam is a researcher in Physical Geography with expertise in natural flood management (NFM) in upland headwater catchments. He is currently a Research Associate involved with several projects, including:
His PhD research investigated the efficacy of peatland restoration for NFM, specifically identifying the optimal design of gully blocks for flood attenuation. The research used empirical hydrological data, hydraulic modelling, and geospatial methods to provide evidence of the flood risk reduction benefits of NFM-optimised gully blocks. The findings from his PhD have contributed to an improved understanding of NFM in peatland headwater catchments and have informed practitioners
Adam also has extensive experience in environmental GIS and Remote Sensing both in academic and non-academic roles.
