Personal profile

Overview

I am a Special Collections Librarian at the University of Manchester Library. I am responsible for curating the map collection to exemplary standards and providing collections-based support to all researchers and learners. I use an audience audience-focussed approach to embed collections into research and discovery, teaching and learning and public engagement activities.

I have over 15 years’ experience of working with maps and atlas collections at the University of Manchester and I am an active member of several professional organisations. My research interests include the history of university and department map libraries, map librarianship and map collecting, the history of cartography, map design and critical theory, counter-cartography and diversifying map collections.

I work with academic colleagues to develop and deliver object-based teaching sessions in the map room at the Main Library and co-ordinate the subscription of Digimap, a key online mapping data resource for teaching and research. I also provide research support in the following areas: searching special collections; expertise on map collection formats and history of collections; funding applications; and advice on imaging services and conservation.
