Personal profile

Overview

Dr. Iskandar works with large clinical and primary care databases such as UK Biobank and Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) to investigate epidemiological and pharmacoepidemiological research questions.

Biography

Dr. Iskandar graduated from Cairo University with a Degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Clinical Pharmacy) in 2012 (Honors with distinction).

In 2017, she completed a PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology from the University of Manchester funded by the President’s Doctoral Scholar award. The focus of her PhD research involved assessing the clinical effectiveness of biologic therapies for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis under real life conditions, outside the context of randomised trial using data from the British Association of Dermatologists Biologic and Immunomodulators Register (BADBIR), a UK and Republic of Ireland based prospective, longitudinal, observational web-based pharmacovigilance register. During this time, she became familiar with large databases and advanced statistical methods.

In 2017, she joined the Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety Research at the University of Manchester as a Research Associate. Her main research focused on the epidemiology of Psoriasis and was involved in large projects such as the Global Psoriasis Atlas where she was the co-lead epidemiological researcher. Between 2020-2022 she worked as a Research Fellow and Project Manager with the Centre of Occupational and Environmental Health in occupational health research contributing to multiple research projects (as a Co-I securing a total of £732,626 in grant funding) including epidemiology of occupational skin and respiratory diseases involving the use of large databases such as The Health and Occupation Research network (THOR).

In December 2022, she was appointed as a Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice in the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry at The University of Manchester expanding her interests in multiple long-term conditions, prediction modelling, cancer, and health inequalities.
