Katie is currently a final year PhD student, who divides her time evenly between research and teaching, as part of her Graduate Teaching Assistant Studentship award. Her work focuses on understanding the relationship between cerebrovascular health, brain structure and cognition using large-scale datasets, such as the UK Biobank.
She has presented her work at a number of national and international conferences, such as the Organisation for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM) in Montreal (2023), Seoul (2024) and Brisbane (2025). Additionally, her work was selected to be presented at a lightning oral session at the British Neuroscience Association Festival in Liverpool, 2025.
In addition to her research, Katie has also been a committee member for OHBM's student & post-doctoral special interest group, as their Career Development & Mentorship manager. In this role she has organised several international symposia, coordinated an international mentorship scheme, assisted the organisation of several career development events, such as Lunch with Mentors and supported a fellowship program.
Katie is also an active member of the outreach community, supporting the Manchester Neuroimaging Outreach Group to host outreach events online and at the University of Manchester, focused on teaching the public about neuroimaging. She was also the recipient of a Widening Participation Fellowship, where she delivered outreach sessions to schools around Greater Manchester to encourage children from low attending areas to consider university.
In her teaching role, Katie is a GTA on the BSc Psychology and has taught on a breadth of modules - including seminars, tutorials and lab classes. She has also held a lead GTA role in the Cognitive Neuroscience and Sensation & Perception modules, where she supports other GTAs in delivering effective teaching sessions.
