Biography

Dr Pedro Sampaio is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Information Systems and Data Science, and a former business technology consultant of McKinsey & Company. Dr Sampaio has published extensively in the fields of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Platforms, Industry 4.0 and Data Quality Management. He has also developed Knowledge Reports for McKinsey & Company's Internal Knowledge Research Practice.

Dr Sampaio has led and participated in research/consulting projects involving academic and business organizations in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Latin America and the United States in the Telecom, Banking, Construction and IT industries. Dr. Sampaio's research has been funded by the European Commission (H2020 and FP7) Programmes, Innovate UK, The Alan Turing Institute, EPSRC (Case Award), SMEs in the United Kingdom and by Brazil's National Research Council (CNPq), Brazil's Special Training Programme (PET/CAPES) and Sao Paulo's State Research Council (FAPESP). Dr. Sampaio has acted as an academic partner to IBM/UK developing joint teaching initiatives between IBM/UK and the University of Manchester. Dr. Sampaio has acted as Programme Committee member of more than 10 international conference/workshops in Information Systems related areas, published several international peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and supervised 12 successful Ph.D. students. Dr Sampaio holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Science from The University of Manchester.
