Personal profile

Overview

Radu Stoican is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Manchester. He is a member of the Cognitive Robotics Lab and the Centre for Robotics and AI. His PhD project is supervised by Angelo Cangelosi and funded by the Honda Research Institute Europe GmbH.

Research interests

Radu is interested in artificial intelligence and machine learning, with a focus on reinforcement learning (RL). More precisely, his main research topic is meta-reinforcement learning, where he studies methods for automatically learning novel RL algorithms directly from data. His approach is centred on learning sample-efficient exploration for RL, and he has used ideas from related topics, like sequence modelling and representation learning, to achieve this objective. The ultimate goal of his research is to develop algorithms that adapt to complex, dynamic environments, for applications such as robotics and human-robot interaction.
