Biography

Dr Sheena Johnson is an Occupational and Chartered Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, and Professor of Work Psychology and Wellbeing at Alliance Manchester Business School. She is an active researcher into the topics of stress and health, the ageing workforce, and work related violence and aggression. Sheena is the author of numerous journal articles and book chapters, regularly presents her work at national and international conferences and sits on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Stress Management, an American Psychological Association journal, and the official journal of the International Stress Management Association.

Sheena is Co-Director of Alliance Manchester Business School's Work and Equalities Research Institute and the academic lead for theme 2 'Fair Treatment at Work'.

Sheena is the Humanities faculty theme lead for Employment, Productivity and Work  in The University of Manchester's Healthier Futures research platform.

Sheena established the ‘Age, Health and Professional Drivers’ Network www.ambs.ac.uk/ahpdn. The network, comprising transport and logistics firms, unions and industry representatives with an interest in age and health and wellbeing in the transport sector, builds capacity in the sector to exchange knowledge and best practice. Sheena's research led to publication of the AHPD Network's 'Health and Wellbeing of Older Professional Drivers: Best Practice Guidelines' which can be downloaded here

Sheena co-founded the Violence and Aggression Research Network (VARN) which focuses research and impact activities on experiences of work related violence and aggression.

Research interests

Sheena's primary research interests are:

(1) Workplace Health and Wellbeing, occupational stress, burnout, violence and aggression.

(2) The Ageing Workforce, in particular with regard to health and wellbeing, and older worker competencies.
