Evidence-based innovation policy support: new developments in data and methodologies

Abstract

The chapter will discuss examples of the latest data-related tools and developments for evidence-based innovation, science and technology policy support. Structured into three main blocks – evidence-based innovation policy stages; data-related tools and methodological approaches to policy support and evaluation – the chapter will briefly discuss traditional topics around data tools and policy evidence, as well as introduce new methodological approaches and sources of data. From traditional data on innovation surveys (innovation surveys, patents, trademarks) and official statistics (R&D and ICT) to machine learning techniques beyond traditional innovation indicators (procurement, websites) and measurement (digital mappings, machine learning, big data approaches).
