    Abstract

    The effects of employee well-being on job performance are increasingly evident. Meanwhile, the leading indicators of well-being could assist employers in identifying the employees’ well-being level and taking related actions to prevent adverse effects on job performance. The objective of this research is to identify the leading indicators of employee well-being, how they are measured and applied, their impact on employee well-being and the relationships between these leading indicators. A systematic literature review was conducted using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) method to achieve the research objectives. The review identifies organisational leadership as an important leading indicator in the work environment and personal traits such as self-efficacy and resilience as important leading indicators of employee well-being required for coping with the demands of the work environment.
