    Abstract

    A method comprises directing a beam of laser energy at the offending gum at an energy level sufficient to soften it, the laser beam having a width of 5 – 30 mm, directing a jet of gas at the softened gum to remove it from the surface, and applying suction in the region of the gum to take it away from the surface.
