Abstract

This report focuses on the role of communities and connections in social welfare legal advice. It examines how community characteristics and social networks affect people’s access to social welfare legal advice through the lens of four case study local areas: Anglesey, Dartmouth, Greater Manchester, and a London Borough. Our findings and key recommendations for policy and practice can help improve access to social welfare legal advice, well-being and (in)equality within local communities. This research project was funded by The British Academy and Nuffield Foundation, as part of an ‘Understanding Communities’ £1.1 million research programme to strengthen communities’ role in wellbeing.
