Who – I’m an Applied Economist working on Health and Healthcare.
What – I am interested in various applied microeconomic problems in the areas of health (behaviours) and healthcare (organisation and provider's behavoiur), including: cancer detection and screening services • analysis of spillover effects in health[care] • inequalities and inequities in emergency care • selection and moral hazard in health insurance • primary care workforce • primary care networks • implications of mental health services for labour market outcomes.
How – I try to approach empirical studies with theoretical underpinnings, using microeconometric and network analysis tools and working comfortably across platforms (especially R and Stata).
Igor is an applied economist interested in health and health care. His PhD - titled "An Inquiry into Health Systems Governance: the Case of Tanzania" - focused on the identification and empirical evaluation of the implications of health systems governance for health service delivery in Tanzania. The study applied a wide range of econometric and statistical approaches using administrative, primary and secondary survey data. The PhD was enriched by extensive fieldwork for primary data collection. The research was funded by the Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development (r4d).
In his previous role as doctoral fellow at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, Igor also contributed to policy-oriented projects, including:
Prior to his PhD in Public Health (specialisation in Health Economics), Igor obtained a MSc in Economics from HEC Lausanne (Switzerland), with a thesis developing a macroeconomic (DSGE) model to study the interaction between news shocks and risk aversion. Before that, he was awarded a BA in Economics from the University of Lugano in 2012 (graduating with a thesis featuring an econometric analysis of residential electricity consumption in the Lugano region) and a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). During undergraduate studies, Igor maintained (non-research) part-time positions in the public sector in Switzerland and later joined SUPSI as Teaching Assistant and Doctoral Fellow.
By appointment (email).
