Abstract

This conference presentation describes a number of dimensionality reduction methods and their application for image processing and image enhancement of the multispectral images of a very old manuscript/palimpsest which is called the Syriac Galen palimpsest.

An article published in the New York Times on June 1, 2015, described the discovery of a Syriac manuscript that contained the oldest known translation of book On the Mixtures and Powers of Simple Drugs written in Greek language by the Greek medical doctor Aelius Galenus about 2000 years ago. The text of this manuscript was erased in the eleventh century. Scientists and scholars from around the world are now working to recover it.
