Personal profile

Overview

Holly is a psychiatric epidemiologist and behavioural scientist at the Centre for Women's Mental Health, University of Manchester.

Research interests

Holly is a research associate on the European Research Council funded Children and Adolescent with PaRental mental Illness (CAPRI) study. She uses her knowledge of epidemiology and statistics to describe the number of children currently living with a parent with mental illness and to understand the broader needs of these children: their physical health, health utilisation, level of adversity, education and social needs. These data will allow for better targeted non-stigmatising interventions to be developed to support this vulnerable and often overlooked group of children and young people.

Linked to this theme, the reproductive health of women with mental illness. It is already understood that women with mental illness are less fertile, but the reasons for this infertility is poorly understood. Understanding how risks related to poor maternal and reproductive health in mothers contribute to the transmission of risk to their offspring is another research interest.

Holly is also a behavioural scientist and her thesis focussed on adherence behaviour of people with rheumatoid arthritis. Applying behavioural change science in order to solve real world problems is a passion and she trained at the University of Maastricht in how to develop effective behaviour change interventions.
